Jonas asked The Giver about his favorite memory, and he showed him a Christmas morning. Jonas heard for the first time the word "grandparents." He then knew that his parents have parents. He had many questions about what the community do with the elderly.

Jonas felt something really good and The Giver told him that it was love. Jonas wanted that in his own life but he thought it was very "dangerous". When came back home he asked his parents if they love him. They were surprised because that word were not used anymore. Jonas was very confused because love looked very good for him and he had to lie to his parents.

Later, Jonas tried to transmit his memories to Gabriel and he decided not to take his pills anymore.
